Sharing Content Across Course Sections
LATTE & Course Sections
When an instructor is registered to teach multiple sections of a single course, he or she may want to share content across all sections of that course within LATTE. LATTE has options for sharing content across sections.
LATTE vs. WebCT
Sharing content in LATTE is different than it was in WebCT, Brandeis University's previous online learning environment. LATTE has a feature in which "parent" course receives registrar information from the "child" sections the instructor is teaching. An instructor may use this feature in several different ways to share content between sections in LATTE. See the illustration below to see how child course enrollment feeds into the LATTE parent course (metacourse).

LATTE's parent courses are different from WebCT VISTA umbrella courses, in which instructors shared course content between by connecting course sections to each other. Instructors uploaded documents into one section, and the same documents appreared in the other sections.
Requesting A Parent Course
Parent courses in LATTE are currently created only be request. Contact LATTE Help (latte@brandeis.edu or x6LTTE) to request a parent courses to share the same content in all your sections. Parent courses are identified by having "all" within their course name when it is displayed on your MyLATTE page.
Options for a Parent & Children Courses
- Do you want to share course resources between sections?
Choose this option if you want all students in all sections to see the same content. All students are enrolled in the parent course [Course Code_all] and can all access the information uploaded there. If you want to communicate across all sections and not within separate sections, you may hide the section-level courses by entering each child course, go to the course's Settings and select "This course is not available to students" in the Availibility section.
- Do you want all students to communicate across sections or only within their section?
Choose this option if you want to show the same content to all the course sections through the parent course, but also want to use the section courses for section-specific discussions and other interactive features. Make the parent course [Course Code_all] and the section courses visible, and explain to students that they find content in the parent (all) course and interact in the section course.
