Retiring WebCT Vista FAQ
March 3, 2008
Q: What is WebCT Vista and why is it being retired?
A: The WebCT Vista course management system was in use at Brandeis University through Summer 2007. Since Fall 2007 it has been effectively replaced by the LATTE Online Learning Environment, which has been heavily used and well received. As of Summer 2008, all courses will be offered solely in LATTE.
Q: When will my access to my WebCT Vista courses end?
A: The WebCT Vista service will be discontinued on June 30, 2008. All faculty access to courses in WebCT Vista will end as of that date.
Q: What will happen to my content in WebCT Vista courses?
A: Library and Technology Services staff will transfer all exportable content from the most recent iterations of all WebCT Vista courses to a secure location by early April, 2008. This content will be available upon request from latte@brandeis.edu. If you would like this content moved to your Summer or Fall LATTE courses, please submit your request through the Course Content Transition Form at https://sys.brandeis.edu/latte/move_request.
Q: Can I access my WebCT Vista courses between now and June 30, 2008?
A: Absolutely. Visit your WebCT Vista courses by logging in at webct.brandeis.edu.
Q: Can I export my WebCT Vista content myself?
A: You can! The LATTE Help site has detailed instructions on how to export content from WebCT and an explanation of the kinds of content that can be exported. Click here to view the WebCT Content Transition guides.
We are also happy to help you in person: make an appointment with your LATTE support staff by emailing latte@brandeis.edu.
Q: Should I export my WebCT Vista content myself?
A: You should. Although Library and Technology Services staff will save your WebCT Vista content, it is a good idea to keep your own copies of all your important teaching materials. One reliable place to keep your content is your personal UNet space, accessible only by you, but available from anywhere on the internet, and regularly backed up. For more information on storing information in your UNet space, see: http://lts.brandeis.edu/techresources/accounts/unet/serversfilestorage.html
Q: How do I get help?
A: In person: drop by the Faculty Resource Center in the Goldfarb Library Information Commons.
A: By phone: call us at 781-736-LTTE.
